Rstudio starts but won't display any windows
Hello, I'm having the same problem that was discussed here: http://support.rstudio.org/help/discussions/problems/1106-rstudio-s...
I have been using RStudio for about two months, and it has been working fine so far. I recently experienced a crash, and when I went to restart, RStudio would start, but only the menu-toolbar appears, and no RStudio window. I can't make the workspace appear or perform any other tasks from the toolbar.
I am running Mac 10.7.4. Here is info from R:
R version 2.15.0 (2012-03-30)
Platform: x86_64-apple-darwin9.8.0/x86_64 (64-bit)
locale:
[1]
en_US.UTF-8/en_US.UTF-8/en_US.UTF-8/C/en_US.UTF-8/en_US.UTF-8
attached base packages:
[1] stats graphics grDevices utils datasets methods base
Steps I have taken:
* Restart my Mac * Update RStudio to 0.96.316 (I believe I was
running 0.96.304 previously) * Reset RStudio's state by using " mv
~/.rstudio-desktop ~/backup-rstudio-desktop" (I have attached the 2
log files from the backup here) * Uninstall and reinstall RStudio
0.96.316 * Delete all the ".R" hidden files in the working
directory
But despite all this, I continue to experience the same problem. Can you help?
Thanks,
Ashlinn

Ashlinn,
Thanks for reporting and we've recently gotten a few reports about this. Were you working with an external monitor or no? Take a look at the following thread and I'd expect this would fix things.
http://support.rstudio.org/help/discussions/problems/2578-rstudio-w...
Most specifically, the file(s) that are causing the problem are at the following location(s). Note that the second one might not exist:
~/Library/Preferences/com.rstudio.desktop.plist~/Library/Preferences/RStudio.plistTo fix this, make sure to quit RStudio and then move these files to a backup location. If this solves the problem, can you upload them to this discussion so we can take a look as well. We're fairly confident we can fix this.

Thanks very much!
Getting rid of the ~/Library/Preferences/com.rstudio.desktop.plist file did the trick - I am back up and running. (The second plist file didn't exist). I was not using an external monitor when these issues were happening yesterday (although I have done so with the same computer in the past). I've attached the plist file here. Let me know if there's anything else you need from me to help defend against this problem for the future.

Ashlinn,
Glad to hear that worked and thanks for the additional diagnostics.

Ashlinn ,
Wanted to let you know that we should have this bug fixed for RStudio displaying offscreen. This will be included in the next release of RStudio (v0.97) or is available now via the daily builds:
http://www.rstudio.org/download/daily/
If you see it happen again, definitely let us know.
Josh
